Mother’s Day

IMG_3874Of all the roles I play in life, being a mother is the most encompassing and enriching. May 10th is an arbitrary day to celebrate the gift that is motherhood – in fact, every day I get to spend with my beautiful daughters is Mother’s Day.

My girls bring so much joy (and craziness) to my life. As I write this, there is a raucous cacophony of teenage girls’ laughter and shouting lighting up the living room. It’s hard work being a single mother, but it’s also rewarding when you get to help your children grow and blossom into the best versions of themselves.

Since I was a young girl, I always knew I wanted to be a mother. I babysat at every opportunity, and my parents used to say that I enjoyed playing with kids more than being around adults even as I grew up. I became a mother early and the experience completely changed my life and perspective. Everything comes into focus when you become a parent – you see what really matters, what’s really important. For me, that is my two girls, they always come first.

For new parents, I know those feelings of exhaustion and being overwhelmed. Appreciate even those moments though, because they never come again. It’s been 17 years since I became a mother, but I still see my eldest as the little baby she once ways and will always be to me.

Make sure you tell mom how much you love and appreciate her – not just today but every day!
