Remember that rule you heard growing up about not wearing white after Labor Day? Forget it! Throw it out from your mind, banish it from your thoughts and relegate it to the recycling bins of useless information. I’m here to tell you that winter white is fabulous, and not just fabulous, but also a major trend for Fall/Winter 2015, seen on the runways of Prabal Gurung and Jason Wu, in gowns at Altuzarra and as capes at Tommy Hilfiger.
My gigantic fox fur Marc Jacobs hat is the color of pristine Swiss snow and so warm you just want to snuggle up inside it and whisper sweet nothings in its ear next to a roaring fireplace. Ok, I’m fantasizing a bit. However, it did keep my head warm while running around the shows on Monday, and for that I truly love it.
Winter white makes a bold statement and also works as camouflage in a snowball fight with your kids. The key is to keep the rest of the outfit neutral with grey and black to anchor the look. Keep textures heavy and wintery (i.e., no linen or light cotton). It works great for chic outerwear (think white capes or jackets), accessories (see above), and jeans.
I’m wearing: Crocodile loafers, J.M. Weston; Cropped boyfriend trousers, Nili Lotan; V-neck sweater, Uniqlo; Wool coat, Anya Hindmarch; Tote, Céline.
And for a bonus, Tuesday night’s outfit included more winter white.
I’m wearing: Fur, Bally of Switzerland fur; Blouse, Chloé, Trousers, Gucci.
