Denim on Denim

I’m a denim girl. When I’m not dressed for a party, I’m dressed for an active life of running around New York, chasing after my kids and riding my horse out East. Wearing denim is not just a fashion statement, it’s a statement of gender equality. Did you know that it was only 60 years ago that jeans were made for women? It was the French designer André Courrèges who innovated and adapted this previously masculine style. Prior, stores wouldn’t even sell jeans to women!

The fashion icon Iris Apfel tells a story in the newly released documentary about her life from Albert Maysales about how she wanted to buy a pair of jeans in the 40’s and it was only after visiting several shops that one ordered a pair for her in a boy’s size.

Well, we’ve come a long way since then and now I’m proud that my take on denim can be as feminine as a bikini. There are so many ways to wear this season’s denim on denim trend: pair a jacket with your favorite pair of jeans, going with a matching chambray top and pants or do it like me and combine workwear and swimwear.
