Carlos Mota, the eye behind some truly fabulous interior designs, is out with a new coffee table book called A TOUCH of Style by Assouline publishing. Featuring 200 pages of his eclectic arrangements over his decades creating inspired interiors as the editor of Elle Décor and Architectural Digest, the book is a feast for the eyes and a source of style for anyone looking to spruce up their own space.

Creating interiors that Diana Vreeland would love is Venezualan-born Mota’s specialty. Colorful juxtapositions and eclectic flourishes are the hallmarks of a Mota room. It’s no wonder that stylish luminaries like Valentino, Tory Burch, and Jamie Tisch all like to hang at his pad.

I interviewed Carlos in his colorful Chelsea apartment and got some easy and fun decorating tips that anyone can incorporate into their home – style doesn’t have to come with a huge price tag!

1. Fewer big pieces in a small space instead of a lot of small pieces
2. Make your living room like a lounge with a lot of places to sit and entertain
3. Mix textures like silk rugs, velvet couches, and cotton pillows
4. Don’t be afraid to mix colors like bright yellow and warm purples.
