My Hot Mom Story:
Raising children in New York is a lot easier than you think. There are two things that struck me about living in New York with children. First of all, the Metropolitan Museum of Art is our backyard. I remember taking my girls there for tea after school; I remember Teddy turning 21 and taking me on her tour of the Museum. Her knowledge of art history, social history, and religion literally blew Sea and me away. They spent hours in that museum learning about how the world works.
And the other thing that struck me was how non-judgmental New Yorkers are. So I have psoriasis—and I’ve battled with it all my life. It itches, it bleeds, it flakes, and it hurts.
My youngest told her teacher in nursery school that I had “itches.” So I explained to her that I wasn’t bad because I wasn’t like everyone else—I had a visible imperfection that is really my perfection, what makes me unique and special. Kind of like the cheetah who’s always trying to camouflage her spots to fit in, when in fact it’s what makes her the prettiest in the jungle.
